16th May Updates

NOH patients are still housed in the different areas of the Field Hospital. The bulk of the patients are housed in the big WFP tent (51 of them). This is rain proof. Some are housed in the brand new tent donated by UNICEF and some are housed under the canvas UNICEF tents and some unfortunately are under tarps.
We are trying desperately to send those away under the tarps home or transfer them to the big tent but some patients have no place to go and some patients feel safer here and some patients are staying for the food.
The aftershocks are not helping at all. Everyday between five and fifteen aftershocks come. Yesterday evening there was a 5.7 M aftershock. This can be felt very well. This erodes confidence and enhances fear.
The decision for the Field OR was a good one. We conducted 7 surgeries today and we installed an AC for cooling. The day before yesterday, it was baking hot. We have planned 11 surgeries today. The earthquakes will not hamper OR. It is a strain on our employees especially the CSSD and the helpers but no one is complaining. They all understand this special situation.
